Creation of an Integrated Database of the Himalayan Biodiversity for Mainstreaming in Policy to meet National Commitments
Objectives
1. Biodiversity data curation at the village level to develop baseline data for e-PBRs,
agrobiodiversity and biodiversity profiles of all districts and PAs of IHR.
2. Biodiversity indices for improving Environmental Performance Index.
3. Conservation assessment of species for IUCN Red List Indexing.
4. Ecosystem accounting using SEEA central framework.
5. Development of Himalayan Biodiversity Information System (HBIS), Decision Support System (DSS) and mobile App for the Central Database Management Agency (CDMA) for the Himalaya.
Results /Outcomes
• An open-access and user-friendly webportal (HBIS) with biodiversity, demographic and environmental profilesof all villages, districts and PA’s anddetailed web pages of all species in the IHR
• Updated species-level geospatial mapson the extent and availability of widelystudied species in the Himalaya. Ashortlist of indicator species for climatechange and their baseline distribution, especially including the Orchids, Lichens,Bryophytes, Insects, and Amphibians.
• Detailed ecosystem accounts of Sikkimstate using SEEA EA framework including
assessment of change in EcosystemExtent and Extent of land degradation.
• IUCN Red List indexing of at least 20species in the Himalayan regionparticularly focusing on endemic speciesin the Himalaya.
• Preparation of biodiversity data forimprovement of EPI and computation ofindices such as PARI, SPI, SHI, BHI,TBN & TBG etc. for Uttarakhand state totest effectiveness of the approach forimprovement of EPI of India.
• User-friendly mobile App with inbuiltvalidation of data for integration of citizenscience in biodiversity data collection.
• Decision Support System (DSS) withcapabilities of geospatial processing andinput from species extent/ availabilitymaps, demographic, and environmentallayers for mainstreaming biodiversity indecision making and policy planning.

135 districts of IHR for which biodiversity profiles will be developed (Numbers in the box shows number of districts in the respective state).
