World Environment Day Awareness Rally on Single-Use Plastic Reduction under Mission LiFE in Almora

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the EIACP Centre on Himalayan Ecology, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), Almora, organized an awareness rally in collaboration with the students and faculty of PM Shri Raja Anand Singh Government Girls Inter College, Almora, Uttarakhand. The rally was conducted under the nationwide “Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)” campaign, with a special focus on discouraging the use of single-use plastics and promoting environmentally responsible practices among citizens. The rally commenced from the local market area and concluded at the school premises, covering a distance of approximately one kilometer. Participants enthusiastically carried placards and banners displaying messages on environmental conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable living. Through slogans and public outreach activities, the rally sought to inspire community members to adopt eco-friendly habits and contribute to environmental protection. A total of about 1,231 individuals participated in the event, including students, teachers, local shopkeepers, community members, and residents of Almora. Their active involvement reflected a strong collective commitment towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment. As part of the awareness campaign, students interacted directly with local shopkeepers and members of the public, encouraging them to avoid the use of single-use plastic items such as carry bags, cups, and packaging materials. They highlighted the environmental hazards associated with plastic pollution and advocated the adoption of sustainable alternatives, including cloth bags, reusable containers, and other eco-friendly products. The rally served as an effective platform for environmental education and community engagement, fostering greater awareness about responsible consumption and waste management. By promoting sustainable lifestyles and encouraging public participation, the initiative reinforced the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and contributed to the vision of making Almora a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable town.
