EIACP–GBPNIHE Celebrates Earth Day 2026 with Plantation Drive and Awareness Activities

The Environment & Information Awareness and Capacity Building Programme (EIACP) at the GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), Almora, celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2026, in alignment with this year’s global theme, “Our Planet, Our Energy.” The event brought together scientists, researchers, and CLWRM staff, reflecting a collective commitment to sustainable development and responsible energy practices. A major highlight was a plantation drive across the NMHS PMU area, where over 50 native Himalayan saplings such as oak, Berberis, and Alnus were planted, enhancing biodiversity and promoting climate resilience. Experts emphasised the critical role of green energy solutions, including solar power and afforestation, in reducing carbon footprints, particularly within fragile Himalayan ecosystems. The programme underscored the power of collective action in safeguarding the environment. It was inaugurated by Er. M.S. Lodhi, Centre Head and EIACP Coordinator, who encouraged participants to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles and act as ambassadors of sustainability. Interactive sessions further explored renewable energy innovations and their significance in preserving the Himalayan region. Together, let’s act today for a greener tomorrow! #EarthDay2026 #OurPlanetOurEnergy #Sustainability #Himalaya
