As part of the celebration of Jal Mahotsav, a lecture was delivered by Dr. Lalit Giri, Technical Assistant (II) and Rural Technology In-charge, on hydroponic technology using wastewater in Ladakh. He explained the overall procedure of the technology and highlighted its benefits for the local community. He mentioned that this technology is an effective option for the utilization of wastewater and for agricultural production, especially in the tough terrain conditions of Ladakh. Apart from this, he also presented a pine needle-based mulching practice. He explained that, instead of plastic mulching, the use of pine needles is environmentally friendly and helps in ecological conservation. The yield obtained from pine needle mulching, when compared with control and plastic mulching, showed more or less similar results to plastic mulching. This practice can also help reduce pine litter accumulation in forests, which is one of the major causes of forest fires. Additionally, it is useful for water conservation and sustainable agriculture. On this occasion, Dr. S.C. Arya, Scientist-E of the Institute, emphasized the importance of water and urged everyone to save water in all possible ways, as water is extremely precious for life. He encouraged the sustainable use of water and advised adopting good habits for water conservation in daily life. Faculty members, research scholars, and supporting staff attended the lecture. #JalMahotsav2026 #JalArpanDiwas #MissionLiFE #HarGharJal
