The Third Meeting of the National Coordination Committee of India for ICIMOD (NCCII) and Country Consultation was held on 20 February 2026 at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Shri Tanmay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India. The meeting focused on co-designing priority action areas for ICIMOD’s Medium-Term Action Plan VI (2027–2030) through country-level consultations. Dr. I.D. Bhatt, Director, G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBP-NIHE), highlighted the role of NCCII in guiding ICIMOD’s activities in India and strengthening partnerships for Himalayan research and development. Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, Director General, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), presented achievements under MTAP V (2023–2026) and outlined emerging priorities for MTAP VI, including cryosphere and glacial lake monitoring, natural hazards, air pollution, climate adaptation, biodiversity shifts, and regional cooperation across the Hindu Kush Himalaya. The Chair emphasized strengthening ICIMOD–India collaboration through national focal ministries and nodal institutes, aligning MTAP VI with national priorities, and enhancing transboundary regional cooperation. Stakeholders from various ministries, Himalayan states, and partner institutions deliberated on key regional challenges such as afforestation, human–wildlife conflict, disaster risk reduction, sustainable tourism, green energy, and climate governance. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a stronger, impact-oriented regional framework for the Indian Himalayan Region.
